Distinguished and Famous people from Taylors Lakes
🏃 Mark Blicavs
Mark Blicavs's unusual route into elite football began with junior games at Taylors Lakes. He left the sport at fourteen to concentrate on athletics and became a steeplechaser before Geelong offered a path back to football. In a 2013 pre-season appearance against Adelaide, he was still only a handful of games into that return. There were understandable rough edges: his first kick went out on the full and another ball went through his legs. Yet he also competed effectively against an established ruckman and grew in confidence through the match. The Taylors Lakes years were the early football foundation beneath an athletic career that took a considerable detour.
🏉 Robert Stevenson
Robert Stevenson progressed from Taylors Lakes through the Western Jets to Essendon, which selected him in the 1993 national draft. He was seventeen when he made his senior debut in the opening round of 1994. The young defender played six AFL games that year and was part of Essendon's winning pre-season cup side. His senior opportunities were limited, with another five appearances in 1997 before a move to the Western Bulldogs. The local club belongs at the beginning of his football pathway, before the draft and the demanding business of earning a place in an AFL team.
